Our 16-year-old son has cerebral palsy and uses an electric wheelchair. We have found it increasingly difficult to locate any quality holiday rental accommodation that is truly wheelchair-accessible.

Imagine my anger when a huge English Country Cottages 2010 brochure fell through the door and I discovered that there was no coding for disabled access.

I eventually found a paragraph on page 700, which referred merely to easy walking access. There was no attempt to mention wheelchair access. The company’s stated aim is to be “the UK’s No 1 provider of self-catering holidays in Europe”, so I find this attitude worrying. Hilary Harris, via e-mail

It is because of this that we think it is inappropriate to code properties, given that the requirements of those with disabilities vary.”
