Twenty thousand entries were received in the first major ‘Landscape Photographer of the Year’ competition, featuring photographs and themes from around the United Kingdom. The competition featured a total prize fund exceeding £20,000 and is set to become an important annual event.
"The standard of entries was incredibly high and the variety of images was simply remarkable" said Charlie Waite, world-renowned landscape photographer and the man behind the competition.
As well as Charlie himself, the final judging panel included Bill Bryson, Bestselling Writer and CPRE's President; Ben Fogle, TV Presenter & Writer; Janet Ibbotson, Managing Director of the Association of Photographers; Keith Wilson, Founder and Editor of Outdoor Photography magazine; John Langley, Manager of the National Theatre; Monica Allende, The Sunday Times Magazine Picture Editor, and David Watchus of AA Publishing.
An exhibition of over 100 winning and commended entries is being held at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank until November 3.
If that only whets you appetite, more than 200 of the pictures are featured in the new book, Landscape Photographer of the Year: Collection 01. The hardback book is available now from AA publishing, priced £25
