The summer's here and it's time for a new smugshots competition to run alongside our regular galleries.

We've been inundated over the past three years with clever pictures that play with perspective, creating optical illusions aplenty.

We've had plenty of destinations popping up again and again, from taking the lid off the Taj Mahal, to picking up the Great Pyramids and holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

We've also had lots from all sorts of location - in fields, on beaches. And there's plenty more places and ideas to be had and shared with other Times Online readers.

To the right you'll find the most common location for those kinds of shots in a formidable collection of perspectives from the salt flats in Bolivia. The gallery is now up to 30 shots.

Above left is a gallery of the best from October, the 10 best from September and 40 of the best optical tricks submitted from destinations other than Bolivia.
