St Nicholas Abbey (Johnny Murtagh)
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s a tough race and a good race. It should give everybody a clear sign of what they’ve got for next year. He’s a nice horse. He’s won his two races and we are expecting a big run from him. It’s a cracking renewal. The Beresford was the perfect stepping stone and we will know more tomorrow. Good ground would be lovely and I think everything will be in his favour tomorrow.”
Elusive Pimpernel (John Dunlop)
“I am very pleased with how the horse is and his preparation has gone well. We’ll see how good he is on Saturday. It’s very hard to compare the standard of these races, I think waiting to see what the outcome is will be most indicative.”
Al Zir (Saeed bin Suroor)
“Al Zir won at Newmarket on good to soft ground and then won a conditions race at Doncaster on faster ground, but he looks like cut in the ground would be better for him. The horse is working well, he worked four days ago and worked very well. Before that Frankie rode him and it was a nice piece work. It's a tough race, there are some good horses in there, but he is improving all the time. He is more of a three-year-old, he is a big horse. This is his chance in the Racing Post Trophy and we are looking for a good run from him. The mile will be no problem.”
Coordinated Cut and Morana (Peter Chapple-Hyam)
“Both Morana and Coordinated Cut are in good form and tomorrow we will find out where we stand with each of them. I am looking forward to the race, although I'm slightly nervous. But it is nice to have two horses that are hopefully of the calibre to run in a group one. Morana ran a really gutsy race to win at Ascot last time. This is a tougher proposition, but he handles the ground and should be competitive. Coordinated Cut won't mind a bit of cut in the ground, either. He is a horse we've always thought a good bit of and we were pleased to see him win first time up. The Racing Post Trophy has been the plan for him for a good while now but it is a big step up in class. We have fingers crossed that he is capable of making the jump.”
Dancing David (Brian Meehan)
“Dancing David has always looked the part at home and we were very confident he would take all the beating at Newbury after his promising debut effort. There were strong messages for a number of his rivals in the race, and he pulled nicely clear of them in the closing stages after making virtually all the running. The Racing Post has always been the race we have had in the back of our minds for him. His work since Newbury suggests he will run a very big race."
Musaafer (Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum)
“On paper it looks a very hot race. He's going well at home and he's a promising horse. We don't know if he's up to this and obviously we won't until we run him. We just hope the ground doesn't get too soft for everybody. Let's just see where he belongs and tomorrow's race will tell us a little bit more. Like most of them at this stage he's pretty much an unknown quantity. He won a maiden well and we'll have to see if he's up to taking this big jump in class.”
Elusive Award (Andy Oliver)
“The horse is over there. Reports are good - he's settled in well - so everything is on course so far. When Jim Bolger did not declare his horse, Kevin was delighted to ride ours. Time will tell. The best two-year-old milers around are in the race tomorrow. I think a lot of my horse, I put him in the race before he had even run and this has been our target from early in the season. I'm not going to predict anything. At this time of year you can't get bullish. I think he's got ability and we've got him in as good a shape as we can. I hope conditions don't deteriorate, he wants good ground.”
Al Ghazal (Saeed bin Suroor)
“His form is good and he is also improving. He worked three days ago and worked very well. I'm very happy with him.”
Big Audio (Richard Hannon)
“Big Audio will be one of the outsiders for the Racing Post Trophy, but the ease in the ground is definitely a plus for him. He won the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot on fastish ground, but he has always preferred a bit of cut, and we have given him a break since he won his listed race at Salisbury in August. He will need to improve, but he is a colt with plenty of scope so I hope he will do so.”
