Justin Rose, The Times columnist, will return to the course that made his name when he begins his bid to win the Open Championship on Thursday. Ten years after he finished fourth at Royal Birkdale as a little-known amateur in the same event, the Englishman will return to the venue knowing that he will rarely get a better chance to win a major championship.
Winner of last season's European Order of Merit, ranked ninth in the world and placed in the top 12 in each of the past four majors, he has over the last 12 months put behind him periods of inconsistency and begun to fulfill his considerable promise. Almost as significantly, he will not have to overcome the formidable challenge of Tiger Woods, who is absent through injury.
Rose will take time out this week to answer your questions. So if you want, for example, to know more about his preparations for the Open, need tips on your game or would like Rose's opinion on a pressing issue in the sport, email sport@timesonline.co.uk. You could be writing to the next Open champion.

What many top golfers from, like the rest of us, is that they are mentally weak. Watching Norman prowl down the fairway with a swagger like he owned the joint showed what you have to be. Too many players weak willed looking, hoping, not full of confidence and authority. Need a rev up! You agree?

Re: Early Open tee time
Hi Justin, Do you have any tips for early starts? I've been drawn to tee of at 7:58 in the England Girls Under 15s Championship. When (and what) do you eat for breakfast when your body is telling you to sleep? Let's hope it's the year for early starters! Best wishes, Alice
