50. Iván Zamorano (1996-2000)
Nicknamed "Bam Bam", after The Flintstones character, for his uncompromising, battering-ram style, the former Chile striker was signed from Real Madrid and given the coveted No 9 shirt. A year later, when Ronaldo arrived, he was asked to make way and switch to No 18. He did so, albeit insisting the addition of a "+" sign, turning it into "1+8", clinging to his favoured number by any means possible. Zamorano's only trophy with Inter was the UEFA Cup, but he remains a hero for his passion, enthusiasm and intensity on the pitch.
49. Attilio Giovannini (1948-1954)
A strapping, athletic player, he understood better than most that a defender's job is, above all, to defend. Maybe that's why, despite making 191 Serie A appearances for Inter and a further 81 for Lazio and Lucchese, he did not score a single goal in top-flight football. He played for Italy in the 1950 World Cup finals - needless to say, without scoring a goal - and won two Serie A titles with Inter.
48. Annibale Frossi (1936-1942)
Possibly the best bespectacled footballer in history, Frossi was born short-sighted and refused to play without his glasses. This meant, among other things, that he never headed the ball and led to supporters coming up with the nickname "Doctor". To be fair, he did have a university degree - he was a civil engineer - and there was a subtlety to his game that clashed with the prevailing brawniness of the era. Frossi was the leading scorer in Italy's gold medal-winning side at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and won two league titles and one Coppa Italia with Inter. He later he became a coach and was known as a somewhat eccentric, ultra-defensive specialist with his 5-4-1 formations and his belief that "a perfectly managed game will always finish 0-0."
47. Joaquín Peiró (1964-1966)
The Spanish forward was signed from Atlético Madrid in 1964, but, curiously, he rarely played in the league, as the Italian FA had a limit of two foreigners per team and the club already boasted the likes of Luis Suárez and Jair. And so, Peiró came to be known as the "Cup Man", featuring heavily in the European Cup - where the limit was four foreigners per team. He scored the second goal in Inter's famous, 3-0 semi-final victory over Liverpool when he flicked the ball away from Tommy Lawrence as the Liverpool goalkeeper bounced it in his area and deposited it into the net. He won two league titles and one European Cup with Inter.
46. Angelo Domenghini (1964-1969)
A natural right winger, Inter signed him from Atalanta in 1964, but he had the misfortune of playing in the same side as Jair and was quickly turned into a jack-of-all-trades, playing on either wing, as a midfield player or as a forward. Domenghini nevertheless proved to be an important part of La Grande Inter, winning two league titles and one European Cup. He even invented a role for himself, that of the "fake centre-forward", where he would start in a central striking position, then float wide to either wing. At the time, it was nothing short of revolutionary and befuddled opposing defences who were used to rigid, tactical systems.
45. Gianluca Pagliuca (1994-1999)
He moved to Inter from Sampdoria in 1994 for £7 million, a world record for a goalkeeeper at the time and soon replaced the legendary Walter Zenga in the hearts of the Inter faithful. Tall and rangy, he was a calming influence on his defenders. In 1994, while playing for Italy, he became the first goalkeeper to be sent off in the history of the World Cup finals. Pagliuca, who holds the record for most Serie A appearances by a goalkeeper, won one UEFA Cup with Inter.
