Hampshire have completed the signing of Simon Jones, the England fast bowler, after he was released by Worcestershire. Jones, 30, has agreed a three-year deal at the Rose Bowl and will be hoping that the move to the South Coast will revive his England career.

The 2005 Ashes winner missed the whole of this season after undergoing surgery on his injured knee in April and his contract with Hampshire, which will officially begin on November 1, includes appearance and fitness-related clauses.

"I am delighted to have signed for Hampshire," Jones said. "I feel that the Rose Bowl is a venue where I can reignite my cricketing ambitions and at the same time bring home some silverware and success to such a forward thinking club. I look forward to meeting all the guys and hopefully adding to the superb talent that is already here."

Hampshire beat off competition from Glamorgan, Jones's former county, for his signature.

"We are delighted to have added Simon Jones to our battery of seam bowlers for next season and beyond," Rod Bransgrove, the Hampshire chairman, said. "I have been a great fan of Simon since the Ashes victory in 2005 and we all know what a match winner he can be when fully fit."

Jones has been plagued by knee problems since playing a key role in England's Ashes win over Australia in 2005.

He moved to Worcestershire from Glamorgan in 2007 after turning down overtures from Hampshire. The Welshman rediscovered his form at New Road, helping them to win promotion to the first division of the LV County Championship in 2008 after taking 42 wickets at an average of 18.02, and was called up to England's preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy.

However, injury brought his season to an early close and he was ruled out of the entire 2009 season after undergoing an operation to have fluid drained from his knee in April. Worcestershire, meanwhile, finished bottom of the first division without winning a match.

Giles White, Hampshire's first team manager, said: "Obviously we are very excited to have signed Simon. He knows he has a hard winter ahead in terms of rehab to get his career back on track but he is a proven performer at both domestic and international level and I'm sure he will prove to be a great signing for the club."
