You will need:
Face paints including white, red, black, yellow and blue
A medium-sized make-up brush
A mixing palette (an old ice cream carton lid would do nicely)
A sponge or the corner of a bath sponge
Fake blood
Remember to read the health and safety advice on the packet and follow any instructions on the label
Start with a clean, dry face. Dampen your sponge and apply white face paint evenly over your skin. Cover your lips with white face paint as well for that really deadly effect. On your mixing palette, mix red, yellow and black paints into a nice mucky brown colour. Add the black last — only a small amount will turn your colour very dark. Using the brush, gently pat on the dark brown colour anywhere that shadows occur naturally on the face. You will find them under the eyes and to the side of your nose.
For witchy wrinkles, use the same dark brown paint that you mixed for the shadowing. Screw your face up in the mirror with a big frown! You will be able to see clear lines — fill these in using the tip of your brush. Next, raise your eyebrows and do the same with the lines across your forehead.
Bring tears to your mum’s eyes with an unsightly sore on your face. Mix a dash of purple paint into your red. If you don’t have a purple, mix red and blue paints separately to make one, then add it to your red. With the flat side of your brush, pat the sore-looking red colour around the rims of your eyes, underneath your nose, on the outsides of your nostrils and in the corners of your mouth.
Want to look like a witch who has been burnt at the stake? Mix the brown that you used for shadowing with a bit of yellow to make a rusty colour and apply a large patch on one side of your face. Now use your brush to pepper fake blood in a smaller patch inside your burn so that it looks nice and fresh.
To get grime on your teeth like our witch, you could suck Black Jacks or liquorice for a grubby-looking black tint. Now all that’s left is to perfect your blood-curdling cackle or horrible howl!
