All filled at least 9 per cent of their undergraduate places through clearing in 2006, the latest year for which figures available.

Other universities, including some of the most prestigious, will offer places in some subjects through clearing. Start your search at the website operated by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service: ucas.com/clearing. It publishes a list of every course with vacancies, which is updated in real time.
