4: The Civil Service

The Civil Service is one of the country’s largest employers with a staff of half a million people working in over 170 different government departments and agencies that impact every aspect of life in Britain. Its Fast Stream entry scheme has long been a popular career choice for university-leavers and offers high potential graduates an accelerated training and development programme. The Civil Service expects to recruit 500 graduates for the scheme in 2008, one of its highest intakes for several years, and from the outset, Fast Streamers will be groomed for senior management positions. The Civil Service is ranked No 4 in the 2007 Top 100 Graduate survey.
