As some speculate that crude price will head for $200 a barrel and pump prices top £5 a gallon, Times Online links you to top industrialist Jeroen van der Veer, chief executive of Shell, who will answer your questions on the outlook for the oil industry.
He believes that by 2100 the world's energy system will be radically different to today's, and that choices that will be made during the next five years will produce effects that will shape the world for the next half century.

Why should US oil companies be subsidized by the tax-payers when the oil companies are posting record profits? Why are those subsidies going to PROFIT instead of keeping the PRICE DOWN?
Garritt, Savage, MN, USA
Well, since he won't be in position to answer 99% of the questions, I ask him the one he might:
How come oil companies keep saving money disregarding the environment by using those single layered ships? You do have the money and technology to make them reliable against small accidents.
alejandro, two montains, canada
How do you sleep at night- how much money have you given to those less fortunate. What about the Niger River and the environment- can you honestly say it is in the same condition as it was when you arrived? Do you ever wonder what it may be like to tell your children there is no more food or water
Sandra Jeffries, Acampo, USA
How about trying to get forecourts in the U.K. to show the amount of the price that is tax, like builder's merchants do with vat? As 2 thirds of the price of a litre is tax, meaning a tax rate of 200% then this might put pressure on the government to reduce this disgraceful amount.
polly parish, tenby, wales
Dear sir, Oil prices has reached 135$/barell. It seems OPEC has no intention to hike supply to meet rising demand. Rising inflation is leading to social uprisings in developing nations. As a 'socially responsible' company, what is SHELL strategy to meet rising demand and cap inflation?
Jacob, DOHA, QATAR
The world's remaining non-OPEC oil reserves are increasingly difficult and expensive to produce and the cost of rigs, pipelines and other vital equipment is also soaring. What is the minimum oil price Shell now requires to make new oil projects profitable in difficult areas, like offshore Alaska?
James Herron, London, UK
Mr Van der Veer, i need only ask the "big question", as all the others are insignificant when this is answered.
There isn't as much oil as the oil exporters tell us there is, so how long do we have, and what are Shell doing about it?
Scott Rhodes, Birmingham, United Kingdom
What will be the primary replacement for oil and how long will it take for us to lose our dependency on fossil fuels.
Mark Bryant, Camberley, UK
Dear Mr.van der Veer,
What is Shell's average increase on exploration costs since 80's?
What is the respective oil transport increase during same period?
What is the expected discrease of last if all pipe lines plans be completed?
Totis Miliotis, Athens, Greece
The Energy Information Adminstration of the US Government estimates there are potentially 50 billion barrels of oil in the Wedell and Ross Sea areas of Antarctica alone. Will Shell uphold the Madrid Protocol of 1991 placing a 50 year moratorium on the exploitation of Antarctica's natural resources?
Gareth King, Durham , UK
The Chinese economy has been growing predictably, and for years. It did not start last September. Oil price rises in line with increased demand should track the growth of consuming economies - gradually, and over time. Looks like pure speculation. Can you convince us otherwise? If not - why so fast
H.Johnson, Norwich, Norfolk
Diesel for us is 15p a litre dearer than petrol. Although it is said that pertrol is better for the earth, it's not totally proven AND diesel cars do more to the litre/gallon than petrol like for like.
Perhaps drivers of diesel cars are being penalised because they visit the pumps less often.
Janet Wood, Penrith, Cumbria
Diesel is not as good for the environment.. it produces more nitrogen oxides and contains more sulfur. Hence it is more expensive. But many cars now give a better mileage with diesel cos of the higher compression ratio.
Collby, Mancester,
Dear Mr Van der Veer,
Why has your stock price hardly moved?I bought Shell shares many months ago because I predicted oil price would go through the roof. Now I am disappointed and wish I had bought shares in some other oil company.
Rajiv, London,
Mr van derVeer,
Shouldn't Shell be doing more to reinvest profits into renewable energy on a retail level? The next energy revolution in the short term is wind power, yet we have not seen any domestic turbines on the market produced by Shell.
What is Shell doing to reach consumers directly
Kabeer Kher, Portstewart, UK
Why are prices at some major retailers stations up to 6p different in differing parts of the country - I found diesel on the same day 124p and 130p with 40 miles of each other. Would you be prepared to go open book with the retail division and reveal what costs are loaded in to the price?
Noel , Nottingham,
Could you tell us what the growth of expenditure across both revenue and capital based lines has been over the last 3 months - have you been spending more than usual to hide profits given the politically sensitive situation you are in?
Noel , Nottingham,
diesel fuel is now 10p per litre more expensive than petrol yet given the appropriate refining capability isn't it cheaper to produce?
Mr A, Barrie, potters bar, UK
Is Shell to get involved in the Falkland Islands exploration once again, as it was in the late 90's. The region is now estimated to have reserves of 16 Billion barrels, oil was $10 a barrel back then, now it is $120 and rising. Wouldnt this help world economies in general.?
Mark Brooks, Totnes, England
Dear Mr van derVeer,
Would Shell consider going back to the Falkland Islands after drilling there in the 1990's? With regard to the wild life could oil be shipped directly from an off-shore production plarform or would a shore facility be required like say Sullom Voe?
David Inglis, Scotland
D. Inglis, Ardrishaig, Scotland
Dear Mr Van der Veer
what is your view of the 'peak oil' theory? obviously one day we will run out of oil, but are we talking 10, 50, 200 years?
what is your personal view on the oil prices over the next 1, 5 and 10 years? are we facing a world recession with prices at current levels?
Thank you
Anton, Perth, Western Australia
After Sakhalin Shell project was stolen by Russia, will Shell invest again in Former Soviet Union ? If yes, on what basis ?
Michel Jutharat, Bangkok, Thailand
Dear Mr.van der Veer,
Since the incorporation of Shell Canada it is difficult to find out
what yr objective is on the Oil sands investments there. What is current production, future investments and when will you get to the 500.000 b/d production. We all know what COS and Su produce but Shell??
K
Kees van der Poel, Aubonne, Switzerland
There is a lot of talk about the negative's associated with biofuels that have food crops as their base compnents. Will Shell be championing second generation biofuels produced from biomass and human waste using thermophillic bacteria?
David Cosgrave, Knutsford, United Kingdom
